North Bay City Council has given its support to the creation of the Next Generation Task Force.

Councillor Mike Anthony who came up with the idea says members would be from 18-30 years old and would give their take on a wide range of city concerns.

“Folks under 30 who are engaged on issues and want to offer some advice as we look to the short term, medium term and long term. What they think would help the city,” Anthony says.

He says a similar thing is happening at the chamber of commerce and there’s interest from young professionals there.

Anthony says they would look for representation from Canadore and Nipissing.

He says this age group is compassionate about what is best for North Bay.

“To me this is one of the most engaged generations I’ve ever seen. They’ve grown up with more power in the palm of their hand than NORAD had during the cold war. I want to capitalize on their ideas and see if there’s some of them that we can work into the city,” he says.

He says the idea is to have the task force up and running by the spring.
