Nipissing MPP Vic Fedeli is in Ottawa today (Monday) meeting with his provincial and federal counterparts.

Among the topics being discussed are carbon taxing and the struggles of the oil and gas industry, along with more specific issues to their files such as Canadian competitiveness and the state of the global economy.

Several provinces, including Ontario, are calling for an overhaul of the equalization program.

In advance of the meeting, Federal Finance Minister Bill Morneau has released the amount of money Ottawa will transfer to the provinces in 2019-20, including nearly 20-billion dollars in equalization payments.

That money will be split among just five provinces: Quebec, Manitoba, Nova Scotia, P-E-I and New Brunswick.

Ontario is not receiving a payment for the first time since the 2008 recession.
