An Ontario Heritage Trust Provincial Plaque is being unveiled today (Thursday) to honour Louise de Kiriline Lawrence.

Officials say she was an early environmentalist and internationally renowned author who contributed to our knowledge of North American wildlife through her detailed observation and exhaustive fieldwork.

In 1934, de Kiriline Lawrence was the head nurse to the Dionne Quintuplets.

Then in 1939, after settling on the Mattawa River, she became committed to the naturalist activities that would make her famous, writing over 500 reviews, 17 scientific papers and five books on wildlife.

The provincial plaque is being unveiled at the Bonfield Parish Hall.

Meantime, the 3rd annual Louise de Kiriline Nature Festival goes Saturday from 9 am to 3 pm at the Laurier Woods Conservation Area.

The days activities include Wise About Bears, a Biodiversity Challenge, Build a Bird House, Nature Photography and much more.

It’s a free event with more details available at www.nipnats.com/club-activities/naturefestival
