voteFederal Election day has arrived in Nipissing-Timiskaming and across the country.

Local returning officer Jim Mallory says the voter information card you receive in the mail is just that, information on where you should go and vote.

He says you will be required to show identification with your name and your address.

The 178 polls in the riding are open from 9:30 AM until 9:30 PM today (Monday).

Meantime, watch “Behind The Ballot” tonight on TV Cogeco channel 12 and 700, or listen to the live stream at Country600.com beginning at 9:30 PM, when the polls close.

Back to Election Day, Mallory says any questions you have should be directed to the local returning office of Elections Canada which is on Brennan Street or you can call 1-866-256-9929.

voteHe says a drivers license is a perfect example of identification, but a bank statement is good too or any other government issued card that has your name and address on it.

Mallory says you can also use a bill for ID if it verifies your address.

He also says you can register on election day in a poll if you are supposed to be registered in that poll.

After the polls close at 9:30 PM, Mallory says the ballot boxes are opened then and the vote counting starts at individual polls.

He says the results are tabulated, phoned in to their office and put on the Elections Canada web site.
