Anthony Rota

Finances, pipelines, job creation and health care were just some of the issues discussed on Country 600 CKAT‘s final “Meet the Candidates” session on Friday morning.

Nipissing-Timiskaming Liberal candidate Anthony Rota was our guest.

Rota was asked about financial issues and if balancing the books is a priority for the Liberals.

He says,  “our plan is thought out, and we’re adding $60-billion over ten years and it’s going to infrastructure.”

In looking at the Aerospace sector, Rota says they want to develop a long term plan and increase funding for research and development.

He says by increasing funding within that area it creates a seed and grows from there.

As well, he says when it comes to Healthcare the Feds need to work with the provinces. He says that’s something they haven’t seen under Stephen Harper.

Rota was asked about the Energy East Pipeline project, and he says “Trout Lake needs to be a protected lake.”

He says “the local MP took Trout Lake off the protected lakes list and that opened the door for big oil to come in“.  He says that would be something he strongly votes against.

Rota discussed seniors issues as well and says the retirement age should stay at 65. He says by delaying it to 67 it takes $13,000 out of the pockets of the people who need it the most.

As well, he says the Liberals have a plan to help youth find jobs and that’s mainly through the summer jobs program.
