Over 350 workers at Ontario Northland have a tentative contract.

Unifor Local 103 announced they have reached tentative agreements for all five bargaining units.

The deals still need to be ratified, but union officials say some significant improvements were made.

“I am extremely proud of the work of or bargaining committee and the solidarity they showed during what was at times a stressful and difficult round of bargaining,” said Local 103 President Andy Mitchell. “We worked very hard in the interests of our members and made some significant improvements.”

“I am very happy that a tentative agreement has been reached,” said Corina Moore, President and CEO. “Both bargaining teams put a tremendous amount of time and effort into the process. Together, they have produced an agreement that will not only provide stability for employees, it will also enhance confidence from our remanufacturing customers and strengthen the division’s competitiveness. With this agreement in place, we are extremely well-positioned to attract more long-term remanufacturing contracts.”

Workers include clerical, on-board passenger train service, yard office, stores, freight sheds, hotel staff and mechanical shop craft workers.

The tentative agreements renew all five Unifor contracts that expired on December 31, 2018.
