North Bay OPP say they investigated 678 collisions last year and 10 % of them were caused by inattentive driving.

The public is reminded that distracted motorists now face tougher penalties.

If you’re caught talking on your phone, texting, dialing or emailing using a hand-held device, such as a cell phone you can be fined up to $1,000 with a three-day licence suspension and three demerit points upon conviction.

The fines and suspensions multiply for each subsequent offense after that.
