Next week is March Break and it’s looking like the city’s outdoor rinks will be open. Parks Supervisor Elaine Pepin says the forecast looks promising to keep the rinks open until next week.

“Hopefully, there’s nothing serious until next Thursday when the high will be plus four. We’re shooting for then and maybe even the 16th when March Break is over,” she says.

She told BayToday that if they get to Saturday of next week and the rinks are still open that would be the latest since they started keeping records in 1989.

“1999 was March 14th also. If we make it to the 16th we’ll reach the longest the rinks have been open since 1989,” Pepin says.

She says it’s always their intention to keep the rinks open during March Break but the weather dictates a lot.
