North Bay City Council has given approval to a project which will extend green light times as city transit vehicles approach intersections. North Bay Transit Manager Remi Renaud says this will save money.

“In regards to the wear and tear of the buses as they’re constantly braking at intersections. As well, there’ll be less idling,” he says.

He says the project will also save time for passengers.

‘Throughout the course of one particular route three or 4 seconds at seven or eight lights you’re talking about a couple of minutes and that’s all the time we need to help us make connections for people at the terminal or transfer locations,” he says.

The cost of the project is about $200,000.

Renaud says it’s too soon to say when the new system will be operational.

Meantime, he says the new cameras on the transit buses are operational. 5 of them are inside the buses and 2 are on the outside.
