Team 1305 is off to Barrie this weekend for their first robotics competition of the season.

One of the team leaders is Colton Chaput, a grade 10 student at Algonquin.

He says their robot this year is Kepler named after the astronomer of the same name and the game they’ll be playing this weekend at Georgian College is called Deep Space.

He says they’ve put a lot of work into getting ready for the season.

“6 weeks to build the robot and to do it we were here 6 out of 7 days during the week. We work for 3 hours a day during th week and all day on the weekends,” he says.

Build manager Jared Kelso says the whole team is proud of the job building Kepler the robot they’ve constructed this year.

“We learned a lot in building the robot. At competitions we meet so many nice people and meet new friends. It’s a lot of fun,” he says.

Their next competition wil be at the end of the month at Nipissing University. Chaput says it’s about getting points so they’re in a good position at the provincials in April.

The goal is to get back to the worlds. 1305 is looking to go for the 16th year.
