Laser pointer directed a local flight

City police are cautioning people after a report of a laser light being directed at an approaching airplane last night.

They tweeted that the incident happened around 8:30 pm and that criminal charges can be filed under the Aeronautics Act.

The penalties for intentionally interfering with an aircraft with a laser, upon conviction, include up to 100-thousand dollars in fines and five years in jail.

Police also say possession of a laser pointer over one milliwatt is not allowed within 10 km of an airport (see map below).
