The Ministry of Transportation says Highway 17 at Bissett Creek will not open on Wednesday.

The motoring public is asked to use the detour route down Highway 11 to Highway 60.

The ministry says there’s been massive damage to the shoulder and embankment on both sides of the highway.

It says the damage was caused by a back up of water which was caused by a blocked culvert.

This culvert is currently sitting under 9 metres of water which is preventing staff from completing an assessment of the culvert.

The ministry is in the process of installing a temporary culvert to help lower the water level and stabilize the embankment and that could take several hours.

After that, the situation will be re-assessed.
