The North Bay Mattawa Conservation Authority says The Parks Creek Backflood Control Dam is expected to be in operation Thursday.

In a tweet, the authority says this is necessary to protect people and property on Parks Creek from flooding from the rising water levels in Lake Nipissing.

Officials say the rate at which water is flowing into Lake Nipissing is continuing to slow but the lake level is still rising and is anticipated to continue rising over the next several weeks.

The level rose 3 cm since Tuesday and is still below the level at which minor shoreline damage can occur.

Meantime, the authority has closed the Eva Wardlaw Conservation Area until further notice.
