The Nipissing Regional Branch of the Canadian Mental Health Association is creating awareness with several events this week.

Executive Director of the local branch Margie Woods Clarke says the the theme this year is get loud about mental health.

“The message this week and in our Get Loud message is five in five of us have mental health. We need to find ways to nurture and encourage people’s mental health and do some prevention as well. But also work collaboratively to wrap services around people when they need it,” she says.

Clarke says there are positive signs that people are becoming more open about discussing mental health issues.

“I think it’s improved. We’re increasing awareness and we’re creating safe spaces for people to ask for help and support when they need it. I definitely see a difference,” she says.
