Mining Week runs tomorrow (Monday) through Friday and officials are showcasing local opportunities and how international and innovative local mining groups are.

The week starts off tomorrow with the ‘Mind Blast Showcase’ from 9-5 at Canadore’s Commerce Court Campus with a mining trade show and guest speakers.

There’s also ‘mining matters’ events at a few local schools and a social on Wednesday.

Officials say the mining sector is a significant contributor to the North Bay’s economy with about 67 companies in North Bay that support the mining industry.

This event, presented by The Canadian Institute for Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum (CIM) – Northern Gateway Branch, is a collaborative initiative between community partners and will focus on the importance of the mining industry to the local economy.

“The Mining Week Committee wants to thank all of the volunteers, mining companies and community partners for their support, which has helped grow North Bay Mining Week into the success that it is. We are very excited our events are attracting interest and attendees from all over Ontario. We invite the community to come out and enjoy all of our events.” says Rachel Cranford North Bay Mining Week Chair.

“On behalf of the CIM, we look forward to working with other professional organizations during mining week to bring awareness to our community. There are approximately 67 companies in North Bay, which support the mining industry. This wouldn’t be possible without the support of the community,” says Richard Cook, Chair of the CIM Northern Gateway Branch.
