Those looking for a Starbucks fix no longer have to drive to Sudbury to get it.

Starbucks North Bay opened on Algonquin Avenue this morning.

A grand opening goes at 10 am.

Staff have been canvassing the city of late bringing beverages to various local groups and companies.

 

P&G Auto Parts in North Bay has been collecting unwanted electronics this month, with a wrap-up bbq today (Friday).

Proceeds from the collected electronics are going to the Sunshine Foundation.

Earlier this week, BayToday reported P&G has already shipped one large container with another one about 75 percent full.

 

North Bay’s inaugural Defeat Depression Walk/Run goes Saturday at the waterfront to raise funds to fight depression.

The goal is to raise $20,000 for peer to peer support for people with mental illness.

“The support that we’re looking for allows us to train peer support workers here in North Bay and that provides direct one-on-one support to individuals who are suffering from mental illness,” says Organizer Ken Porter.

Registration at 9 am at the Kiwanis Bandshell, followed by the walk/run at 10 am.

The YMCA Road Hockey Classic goes Saturday at Lee Park.

Athletes of all ages and skills are taking part in the event, which is supporting the YMCA Strong Kids Campaign.

Registration is $250 a team.

The opening ceremonies go at 9:40 am with the first game at 10 am.

Teams of four to six players are guaranteed four, 20-minute games.

Sunday is the rain day.

 

Callander is hosting a Family Cycling Festival Saturday.

The event gets underway at 10:30 am at the Callander Community Centre and includes a bicycle skills course that officials say is free and fun for all ages.

The North Bay Police Service is hosting it’s annual public auction Saturday.

Property seized, found or turned in to police that is not claimed is put to auction each year,  with proceeds going to the police services board to provide donations to local charities and events.

There’s a preview of auction items at 8 am in the rear parking lot of police headquarters, followed by the auction at 9 am.

 

There’s plenty on tap for the sixth annual East Ferris Trade show Saturday at the Community Centre on Village Road in Astorville.

This family-fun event runs from 8 am to 4 pm and not only showcases local businesses and regional partners, but there’s activities for everyone.

There’s inflatable bouncers, face painting, martial arts demonstrations, bubble soccer, beaver tails, fire trucks, military tanks, local vendors and more.

 

The Walk to Make Cystic Fibrosis History goes Sunday at the waterfront in North Bay.

This is the 5th annual walk locally. Registration is at 9 am at the bandshell, with the 5 km walk starting at 10 am.

There’s also a bbq, hats and toques for sale, snow cones, dunk tank, kite making station, and more.

The event helps raise critical funds for cystic fibrosis (CF) research and care.

 

The Mandarin MS Walk goes Sunday afternoon at the North Bay waterfront.

Check in is at noon at the Rotary Pavillion, with the 4 km walk starting at 1 pm.

Officials say funds raised at the MS Walk are invested in accelerating the pace of MS breakthroughs and empower people with MS to live their best lives.
