The Powassan Voodoos bench boss will be back for another season.

The NOJHL club has announced Max Gavin is returning as head coach.

I just want to thank everybody in the organization for bringing me back and I’m really looking forward to training camp and getting the next season rolling,” he says.

Gavin led the Voodoos to a 33 win season and third place finish in the tight NOJHL East this past season.

“I think we should have a good core of guys back and we look forward to adding some new pieces, as well. I think it’s going to be a great year and we’re going to keep pushing for a league championship and getting back to the Dudley Hewitt Cup,” he says.

In his rookie season behind the bench Gavin was named an assistant coach to Team NOJHL East for the Eastern Canada Challenge Cup last fall.

Voodoos president Jim Bruce feels Gavin is a good fit.

“Max did a fine job in his first year with the Voodoos,” noted Bruce, in a release. “He had a lot to take in as a rookie but what I liked was that he worked well with ownership, his assistant coaches and with our GM.”

Voodoos GM Chris Dawson says he worked well with Gavin and he is pleased to see him back.

“Max is a tireless worker and he is determined to make the team better every day he goes to work,” said Dawson.  “I hope it continues to rub off on our players as we look to get back to a championship in 2019-20.”

The Voodoos are expected to have more personnel and player signings in the coming weeks as the CJHL trade & signing freeze ends today (Friday, May 31st).
