Some more details about the city’s new casino project.

The official ground breaking of Cascades Casino North Bay took place this morning on Pinewood Park Drive.

Gateway says they’re investing 31 million dollars to build the casino and create up to 300 new jobs in North Bay.

Along with the 39,000 square foot gaming facility — featuring 300 slots and eight live table games — there will be a ‘Match’ branded bar and restaurant and a buffet restaurant too.

North Bay Mayor Al McDonald says there are many benefits to the city in this development.

“They’ve committed to buying supplies and services from our local businesses which will support them. The property taxes alone will definitely help out the overall budget and we’re getting almost 5 % of the revenues,” he says.

OLG Chief Operating Officer Lori Sullivan says there will be a Play Smart Centre at the casino.

“It’s a place for patrons and people who want to come in and learn about gambling. Learn how to play smart, learn how to play within their limits and be educated about what it means to gamble and how to do that wisely and responsibly,” Sullivan says.

The new casino is expected to open mid-July 2020.
