BayToday says Downtown North Bay has confirmed that security guards will be hired for the downtown.

North Bay Police Chief Scott Tod says that’s a good idea.

“To have an extra set of eyes and ears downtown to report crime and to make people feel safer downtown is a good idea,” he says.

He suggests they call North Bay Police if they see something.

“Just like any other citizen that is the preferred choice. If they see something whether it’s a crime in progress, or a criminal offense has occurred or is about to occur we would like the guards to contact the police,” Tod says.

Tod says having security guards downtown is also a chance to interact with store owners about their concerns.

Tod says they have increased their activity downtown lately with an increased presence.
