Training camp starts today for the Powassan Voodoos.

Head coach Max Gavin says a year ago the roster was changing because players were leaving while this summer a lot of former Voodoos are returning.

“It seems to be guys want to come here. It’s exciting for all of us in the organization that kids from other teams in our league or kids who have played here before want to come back. It means a lot to us,” Gavin says.

The Voodoos host heir first and only exhibition game on Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. at the Powassan Sportsplex against Rayside-Balfour.

Yesterday, the Voodoos announced the return of former Voodoo Parker Bowman.

Bowman, who was named the NOJHL playoff MVP for the Voodoos in the Voodoos 2017 championship year, is returning after spending the past two seasons with the QMJHL’s Rimouski Oceanic.

Gavin says the league promises to be quite competitive again this season.

“The league is going to be deep and competitive. I think that’s better for the overall product for the fans and the kids too as they’ll be playing against good competition every night. And that’ll help in their development,” he says.

The regular season starts September 5th.
