Today’s the first day of school and that means school buses are back on our roads and highways.

Pierre Ranger is with the Let’s Remember Adam campaign.

His brother was killed in February 2000 when a truck failed to stop for his school bus in Mattawa.

Pierre is calling on drivers to pay extra attention and stop for the school bus.

“Once that school bus has stopped and all the flashing lights are flashing and the stop arm is extended you must stop,” he says.

Ranger says the campaign has called on the province to pass legislation ensuring that stop arm cameras would go on school buses.

“I gave the province a mandate of this month. I don’t think they’re going to get the regulations completely done this month but if they could by this year’s School Bus Safety Week next month it would be great,” Ranger says.

He also says they’re working with the local school bus safety committee to have an eight lamp system.

It would see amber lights put on the top of a bus and there would be two reds and two amber lights on the front and back of the bus and the amber would give the driver a warning that the bus is about to stop.
