The local People’s Party of Canada candidate is welcoming news that leader Maxime Bernier will be taking part in two national leaders debates.

The independent body organizing the events said Bernier’s party has a “legitimate” chance of electing members in more than one riding.

PPC candidate Mark King tells BayToday officials at party headquarters are extremely excited about it.

“They indicated a big reason why Max is into the debates is because our polling numbers are so high in the riding of Nipissing-Timiskaming,” he says.

King says the party is gaining traction locally.

“We’ve been out quite a bit at fall fairs in Powassan and New Liskeard and there’s a general sentiment from people that they’re tired of the ‘same old, same old’ and that’s what we’re seeing right now,” King told BayToday.

He also says they’re getting plenty of calls to the office too.
