A member of the Nipissing Lakers hockey team, Devyn Mayea has been drafted in another sport.

He was chosen 28th overall in the 2nd round by the San Diego Seals of the National Lacrosse League.

Mayea says hockey and lacrosse have a lot in common.

“The same five on five, competitive, high paced transition game. To stay in shape a lot of hockey guys play lacrosse in the summer. Pros like John Taveres and Wayne Gretzky come to mind, ” he says.

He says the league is getting bigger with two new expansion teams this year in New York and Halifax and a TV deal.

“They just keep expanding. The fan bases keep getting bigger. The games are in big time arenas like the expansion team in New York is playing out of the big arena in Brooklyn. It’s extremely exciting,” Mayea says.
