Jay AspinAs part of our Meet The Candidates Election 2015 coverage, City Reporter Matthew Sookram sat down to speak with Conservative incumbent Jay Aspin.

Aspin says if re-elected he wants to continue to “deliver results”.

He says “we are now on the government’s radar and we’ve laid the groundwork to bring in jobs for the region.”

Aspin says they have brought in 2,500 jobs to this riding and they need to continue on that path.

He says another big asset is North Bay’s growing Aerospace Sector. Aspin says this was a postive in his last term and should continue to be a focus.

He also touched on healthcare and says he’s hearing people want long term sustainable funding when it comes to their health. He says that’s something the Conservative Government can and has delivered.

In terms of care for seniors, Aspin says they have a big focus in helping this demographic.

He says “we’ve established a seniors ministry and introduced income splitting for seniors.”

And when it comes to the environment, Aspin talked about his view on the Energy East Pipeline. He says “I would like the National Energy Board to consider a recommendation to redirect the pipeline around parts of the Trout Lake Watershed.”
