As of next Monday, you will be able to put more than three bags of garbage out on pick-up day but you’ll have to pay for each extra bag up to three.

Right now, the maximum number of garbage bags you can take to the curb on collection day in North Bay is three.

Next week, you can put more out but you’ll have to pay a $1 per extra bag fee by purchasing a tag.

“Let’s now allow an option that if people want to add a bag because they can’t recycle it they can go to city hall to buy a tag or 20 tags to get them through the year,” says Chair of Infrastructure and Operations Councillor Chris Mayne.

He was also asked about the impact on the Merrick Landfill with potentially more garbage going there.

The primary source of waste at the landfill is construction material. It’s not residential waste. That is a portion of it but we still see 18-20 years of life at the landfill,” he says.

Mayne says the tags will be available at city hall.
