We’re just under a month away from the Lions Children’s Christmas Telethon taking to the air waves again.

The 73rd annual fundraiser goes December 7th on YourTV North Bay, Country 600 CKAT and online.

There’s plenty of live, local entertainment lined up for the 2 pm to 11 pm broadcast.

Committee member Marlene Link says last year they assisted about 400 families in the several outlying communities.

“So the families will have a better Christmas, we provide toys for the children and a food hamper with a ham or turkey,” she says.

Link says they get great feedback when the deliveries are made.

“People are just thrilled, they feel like they’re looked after, they can have a good Christmas meal. Sometimes people have hard times and situations happen, they can have a day where ‘wow, somebody’s looked after me’ it makes everybody feel good,” she says.

Viewing party’s are also lined up on the day of the telethon.

The Kearney viewing party starts at 3 pm at the Legion, with dinner at 6 pm.

Officials also say a “Christmas begins in Kearney” family friendly event goes 12 pm to 5 pm, with fireworks at 5 pm.

At Highlander Brew Company, the South River and Sundridge Lions are hosting a viewing party from 2 pm to 9 pm on December 7th.

There’s a spaghetti dinner ($15 advance tickets call 705-386-2656) at 6 pm. There’s also a penny sale from 2 pm to 8 pm.

In Mattawa, Lions members are manning “A Stuff a Cruiser Food Drive” from 10 am to 2 pm while promoting the Telethon.

In North Bay, YourTV will visit bars and restaurants looking for donations.
