A tradition for the Nipissing Lakers men’s hockey team and RMC Paladins is coming up this weekend, with a new tradition starting later this month for the Nipissing women.

The men are playing RMC both Friday night and Saturday night at Memorial Gardens, with Saturday’s match-up being the 11th annual Military Appreciation Game.

“We’re grateful that we can support the Military Family Resource Centre as we have for the past ten years,” Lakers Head Coach Mike McParland tells BayToday. “We’re able to donate the proceeds from the jersey auction back to the centre.”

The Lakers will be wearing camouflage jerseys again.

McParland says the two games against RMC are also important when looking at the standings.

The Lakers are three points ahead of the Paladins, but he says a couple of wins would be a big step towards clinching a playoff spot and getting to the middle of the pack range.

The Nipissing women will be hosting their inaugural military appreciation game against Waterloo on January 18th.

The Lakers will be wearing unique winter-combat inspired jerseys that will be auctioned afterwards.

22 Wing Acting Commander Major Andrew Lunn says both games are a great opportunity to showcase the support they receive from the community.

“The addition of the women’s game this year really doubles our ability to highlight that relationship and bring our folks and families out to a great event,” he tells BayToday.
