With the city’s waste collection contract due to expire later this year North Bay has approved a 10 year extension with Miller Waste.
Councillor Mac Bain says the current contract has worked out and going long term makes a lot of sense from a cost perspective.

“It allows Miller to fully pay for its vehicles. If you had a seven year contract instead of a ten you would still be paying for all of those trucks but over a shorter period of time,” he says.

The contract is for garbage collection and recycling and the province has directed Stewardship Ontario to develop a transition plan in consultation with municipalities and
key stakeholders to take full control and funding responsibility of recycling between 2023-2025.

The contract won’t be impacted as long as Miller continues to be involved in the recycling contract.

If it doesn’t the city could be hit with a termination penalty ranging from $276,000 to $1.3 million.
