OPP say a 29 year old East Ferris Township man has been charged with manslaughter and criminal negligence causing death.

Police say the charges were laid last Friday following a drug overdose resulting in death in East Ferris Township last August.

A 32 year old male died.

Ontario Provincial Police have investigated 34 occurrences where charges have been laid for Manslaughter and/or Criminal Negligence Causing Death in relation to fatal overdoses since 2016.

This is the first this year.

A 41 year old Bonfield man has been charged with operating a vehicle while impaired by alcohol and drugs.

Police say the charges were laid following several complaints of a possible impaired driver on Highway 17 in Bonfield last Friday afternoon.

Police say they located the vehicle parked in Rutherglen and the driver was passed out behind the wheel.

Police say the vehicle was impounded for seven days and the drivers’ licence was subject to a 90-day Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension (ADLS).

North Bay OPP say five drivers within the detachment area have been charged in 2020 with impaired driving offenses.
