The North Bay Battalion picked up five out of six possible points last week.

The Troops lost in overtime to Sarnia on Thursday, then shutout Barrie 4-0 on Saturday and defeated Mississauga 3-2 in overtime on Sunday.

Saturday’s game saw Joe Vrbetic earn his first career OHL shutout while Simon Rose scored the game-winning goal in the extra frame on Sunday.

North Bay’s home stand continues with their next three games at Memorial Gardens, starting with a match-up against Ottawa this Thursday.

 

The Nipissing Lakers women’s hockey team finished second overall in the OUA standings winning twice on the weekend.

They beat Guelph 3-2 in a shootout on Friday then shutout Brock 4-0 on Saturday.

The Lakers will travel to Kingston to play Queens tomorrow night (Wed) in game one of their playoff series.

Game two goes Friday night in North Bay with game three, if needed, to be played Saturday night at Memorial Gardens.

In OUA men’s basketball, the Nipissing Lakers wrapped up their season with an 80-77 win over Toronto on Saturday.

The Lakers finished with an 8-14 record.

The women finished at 4-18 on the season.

In volleyball, Both Nipissing teams lost to Toronto.

 

Back to hockey, the Powassan Voodoos won twice on the weekend.

After regaining first place in the NOJHL with a 3-1 win over Timmins on Friday, the Voodoos defeated French River 6-4 on Sunday in Noelville.

Powassan still has a one point lead on Timmins for first overall in the standings.
