Dennis Chippa, the Executive Director of The Gathering Place has been recognized by the Community Drug Strategy North Bay & Area Committee.

Chippa recently received the Community Champion award.

The award goes to someone who is active in the community with the goal of improving health and safety for all, promotes work that reduces stigma, restores hope to those experiencing substance use problems and their families and collaborates with other agencies or groups to make improvements in the community.

Pat Cliche, the Drug Strategy Committee chair says Dennis created the city’s first food rescue program, currently distributing over 1500 pounds of usable food weekly to area food banks, shelters, and meal programs and also developed the Warming Centre which provides a spot for the city’s homeless during the winter months.
