North Bay City Council has approved the property tax rates for the year.

For most residents the amount you’ll be required to pay is about 1.80 % more than last year.

Budget Chief Tanya Vrebosch says that amounts to less than a $100 increase for most residents.

She says the 1.8 figure is different than the tax levy which is 4.8 %.

“That was what we budgeted in December. A lot of people get it in their heads thinking that’s how much their taxes are going up. By the time we get to now and all the calculations are in there the actual increase is 1.8 %, she says.

The city says the final tax bills will be issued at the end of June and the city is allowing for deferrals and interest relief due to COVID-19.

Vrebosch says if you have an issue with paying your taxes due to the impacts of COVID-19 contact city hall at 705-474-0400.

“We’re still making sure we tell residents and businesses to call us. Talk to our Finance Department and have your pre-authorized payment removed and get on a list to do a future re-payment option,” Vrebosch says.
