The Director of the Special Investigations Unit has determined there are no reasonable grounds to believe an officer committed a criminal offence in connection with a man’s death after a cocaine overdose that reportedly happened in a Burk’s Falls jail cell.

The man died in a Huntsville hospital in March of last year, 11 days after being taken there.

After a vehicle stop in Armour Township a driver and passenger were arrested, with the passenger going into medical distress at the detachment.

The North Bay OPP say two impaired driving related charges have been laid against a 35 year old Mattawa man.

There have now been 16 motorists charged with impaired within the detachment area this year and five have been charged in the impaired by drug category.

Police say the most recent incident happened yesterday afternoon in front of a Mattawa business.

The vehicle was impounded for seven days and the drivers’ licence was subject to a 90-day Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension (ADLS).

Nipissing West OPP are warning about wildlife after nine collisions involving wildlife this month.

They’ve occurred on several highways including 17 and 64 within West Nipissing, French River and Greater Sudbury.

Police say the collisions involved either a deer, moose or bear and there were no injuries.

Motorists are advised to scan the sides of the road and reduce your speed as this will significantly increase your reaction time.
