Motorists and cyclists on Memorial Drive will notice something new.

Bike lanes have been added on both sides of the roadway.

Councillor Marcus Tignanelli posted on social media they’re the first bike lanes in North Bay for Active Transportation.

With the Kate Pace Way being an multi-use trail for pedestrians, skateboarders, in-line skaters and a speed limit of 20 km/h, he says the Active Transportation master plan identified Memorial Drive as a great pilot project for bike lanes.

Memorial Drive won’t be closed to traffic this weekend as originally planned.

The city says the further easing of restrictions on businesses and public gatherings by the province means the roadway will remain open.
