It’s not a typical summer for North Bay’s Ken Appleby.

Instead of getting on the ice to take shots the goalie is in a local gym facing rubber.

He told BayToday it’s not normal but you have to make do because the world isn’t normal.

“This is our way of adapting. It isn’t really much. It’s not the same as being on the ice but at least you’re still seeing shots and getting a feel of the puck,” he says.

Appleby says there will still be an adjustment when he gets back on the ice and different but for now it’s as good as it can get.

He’s been working with fellow local hockey products Matt Marquardt, Payton Vescio and Jake Gravelle in an attempt to stay sharp.

He played last year for the Florida Everblades in the ECHL and is hoping to get a contract with the AHL’s Milwaukee Admirals this coming season.
