Canadore College is ending it’s relationship with WE charity.

In a statement the college says it was planning to maintain it’s affiliation with WE schools, but the “ongoing negative attention around the charity has forced the change of direction.”

Officials say WE Canadore launched in 2017 with facilitators traveling to North Bay to lead face-to-face training to empower students with the skills, knowledge, and motivation to make a positive change in the community.

They say WE Canadore Student Leaders would typically volunteer more than 1,100 hours annually within North Bay and district.

Details on a new leadership training program for students will be announced in the next few weeks.

Here is the full statement by Canadore College:

After reflection and re-assessment, Canadore College has decided to end its relationship with WE. The College was planning to maintain its affiliation with WE Schools, but the ongoing negative attention around the charity has forced the change of direction.

Canadore and the Canadore Students’ Council launched WE Canadore in 2017. WE facilitators would travel to North Bay to lead face-to-face training to empower students with the skills, knowledge, and motivation to make a positive change in the community. WE Canadore Student Leaders would typically volunteer more than 1,100 hours annually within North Bay and district.

Canadore will now embark on a new leadership training program for students.

Canadore College specializes in training, and our professionals will leverage their expertise to create an incredible program — enabling students to continue their leadership development. Student volunteer efforts in the community will continue.

The College will reveal details of its new student leadership training program in the next few weeks. It will include the existing “Canadore Volunteers”, a program that encourages the entire Canadore community students, employees, and business partners to engage in community service. College business partners will be invited to engage with students on leadership opportunities. There are a few openings available in the program – new and current Canadore students can apply by visiting the link: https://www.canadorecollege.ca/experience/canadore-student-leadership-development
