The Association of Municipalities of Ontario conference is going on this week and it’s a little different.

Due to COVID-19 it’s a virtual event so there’s not the usual face to face in person meetings between municipal representatives and provincial cabinet ministers.

North Bay City Councillor Bill Vrebosch is taking part in several sessions.

He says one of the issues is improving broadband access which will help in attracting people to North Bay.
“It seems broadband and broadband connection through the province is getting a big push at the conference. The federal minister has recognized it, the provincial minister has and the premier has also,” he says.

Vrebosch says one of the areas he’s interested is in the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program or ICIP as it applies to the community centre project.

“That’s a big one for us because for a $34 million project we could up paying less than $10 million which is great if that could happen,” Vrebosch says.

The conference started on Sunday and wraps up tomorrow.

Vrebosch says he is running to become a member of the northern caucus at the conference.
