With the number of overdose fatalities rising locally there is call for a safer supply site in North Bay and area.

Pat Cliche is chair of the Community Drug Strategy of North Bay and area.

“We want people to come and get their supply and their prescription so they’re not using illicit street drugs. That’s what is killing people,” Cliche says.

Cliche says they’ve also sent letters requesting support to MP Anthony Rota, MPP Vic Fedeli, area mayors, police services and the Medical Officer of Health.

She says there are sites like this in Toronto and London but none in Northern Ontario.

She knows there could be some push back.

“People are going to ask are we going to be funding people getting their drugs free ? I look it as if it saves one life it’s well worth it,” she says.
