The Health Unit reports a harmful algae bloom, also known as blue-green algae, has been found in the south shore area of Lake Nipissing.

Officials say residents are reminded not to use the water for drinking, cooking, bathing, and brushing teeth, don’t swim and avoid water sports when the bloom is present.

They also say using a private water system or boiling the water will not destroy the toxins.

A harmful algae bloom also reported in the past week in Lake Nosbonsing and Commanda Lake.
