The provincial government is providing $96,000 in funding to the Near North District School Board for an online learning program for students.

The Skills Catalyst Project will provide students with an opportunity to learn both interpersonal and technical skills that are highly valued by modern employers.

Both YES Employment and the Labour Market Group are involved in the initiative as the project will provide the next generation of employees with opportunities and skills to be successful moving forward and the needs of local employers are also highlighted.

The federal government has announced over $240,000 in funding which will support a close to half million dollar rail safety project in Powassan.

CN will be installing a new crossing warning system consisting of flashing lights, bell, automatic gates, a constant warning device and a rail fusion system which is software designed to monitor and analyze infrastructure to improve safety.

The railway company will support the rest of the project.
