The District of Nipissing Social Services Administration Board says with colder weather on the way nine additional beds are being added to the low barrier shelter on Chippewa Street.

There are currently 12 beds and officials say the new beds should be ready within a week as a new portable is being renovated currently.

They say there are also shelters at the Crisis Centre of North Bay, as well as four additional district shelters for women fleeing domestic violence.

Meantime, work continues on the new 16 unit transitional housing program project.
