You may notice new traffic lights at the intersection of Highway 94 and Callander Bay Drive.

That’s because of the efforts of Kaitlyn Van Horn.

She began a 1,500 name petition four years ago to have the traffic lights put in after several accidents.

Kaitlyn’s father is with the Callander Fire Department.

He says he’s been called out to many accidents, some resulting in deaths, including one of his high school friend.

The petition which was adopted by Callander council recently received approval from the Ministry of Transportation.

On Thursday, Kaitlyn flipped the switch for the lights.
