The North Bay-Mattawa Conservation has unveiled the new deck where the Kate Pace Way overlooks the LaVase River.

NBMCA Board Chair Dave Mendicino says the bridge is part of North Bay’s Active Transportation Network which is a key connection between North Bay, Callander and the south shore of Lake Nipissing.

He says it provides benefits for hikers, cyclists, snowmobilers and local businesses.

The cost of the project was over $33,000 with several organizations supporting it including the NBMCA, The Great Trail, the South Shore Restoule Snowmobile Club (and the Near North Trails Association.

A $12,000 grant came from The Great Trail, there were $5,000 donations from the Near North Trails Association and the South Shore Restoule Snowmobile Club and the North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority chipped in with $11,000.

Mathieu Roy, Vice-President, Trail Development and Management of Trans Canada Trail says as a section of the Great Trail of Canada, the Kate Pace Way is part of the longest network of recreational multi-use trails in the world.

He says they’re pleased to be able to contribute to this project.
