A double celebration at city hall today.

There was a flag raising to mark the 41st anniversary of the creation of the Franco-Ontarian flag and the 7th anniversary of Franco-Ontarian day.

North Bay Mayor Al McDonald says the Francophone community contributes a lot to North Bay and area.

He says the area is 30 per cent Francophone and today is North Bay’s way of celebrating the French language and culture.

In addition to the flag raising there was a parade with students from both French School Boards taking part.

Irene Charette is superintendent at the French Public School Board was asked what the flag raising means to the Francophone community locally.

She says it’s a clear sign of the French place throughout the province and the country.
