City Council has passed a motion calling on the province to remove the low density subsidy that local distribution companies like North Bay Hydro are paying to 330 Thousand customers in Ontario.

In the throne speech, the province announced two major reductions for hydro users: 8 per cent across the board and an additional 20 per cent for those in the low density category.

Councillor Mac Bain says they’re hoping the government will deliver a strong message to Ontario’s major hydro electricity company.

He says he wants it to tell Ontario Hydro that that subsidy shouldn’t be paid by homeowners in North Bay.

The motion will be sent to the premier, her Minister of Energy, Association of Municipalities of Ontario and the Federation of Northern Ontario Municipalities.
