Another call by North Bay city council for the province to do more about the high cost for electricity.

Councillor Mike Anthony says the Financial Accountability Officer has reported northerners pay 25 per cent more for home energy than their southern Ontario counterparts.

His motion, approved by council last night, calls on the province to come up with ways to reduce costs for the north.

Anthony says you can find examples of what individuals, businesses and even city departments are paying and the high cost is all thanks to the Global Adjustment Fee on your bill.

He says the energy bill at the Public Works yard, for example, is nearly $100,000 so far this year and nearly 60 per cent of it is the Global Adjustment Fee, pointing out “We’ve been hammered in just the last few years.”

Anthony says the province has started to agree with the north and taken some steps, but it’s not nearly enough.
