An increase in incidents this month has led North Bay OPP to remind drivers to be alert when it comes to stopping for school buses.

They also say they’re going to be doing more patrols on area roadways.

Failing to stop for a school bus that is stopped and has its overhead red signal lights flashing can result in a fine from $400 to $2,000 and six demerit points for a first offence.
“The OPP takes all complaints regarding failure to stop for a school bus seriously. It is concerning that, in the month of October, there is an increase in complaints related to school buses, and this is the reason for our increased presence on area highways. One moment of inattention can lead to serious consequences for a child and their family.

The ‘Let’s Remember Adam’ committee continues to do everything possible to raise awareness of this issue, and we are proud to work collaboratively with them on this initiative.

We urge all motorists to be vigilant during commuting hours and to watch specifically for school buses and the young people around them.” says Staff Sergeant Laura Houliston, Commander of the North Bay OPP Detachment.
