Run For The CureA couple of local residents have been honoured by the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation.

Anne Marie Desjardins has received an award for her position as a veteran CIBC Run for the Cure Director, demonstrating leadership, vision, a willingness to motivate others and promote teamwork.

Meantime, Nolan Desjardins receives the Outstanding Youth Volunteer Award for his commitment to the Foundation’s mission, vision and values.

Anne Marie says, “I am motivated to volunteer for CBCF as I do believe in a future without breast cancer. All of my time and energy is worth it when I hear more and more women are surviving breast cancer. One of my fondest memories of the CIBC Run for the Cure was when my brother John came from Ottawa to sing the song he wrote for our survivors: ‘We Will Survive.’ All of the Warriors of Hope linked arms in front of the stage; there were tears and hugs and it was very emotional and uplifting.”

Meantime, Nolan says, “volunteering on the North Bay Run committee has been extremely rewarding. I am honoured to say that I am part of a group that was able to support the North Bay community to raise over one million dollars within ten years. By coming together and creating meaningful change, we have made our community a better place to live, and helped to create a future without breast cancer.”
