Trillium Gift of Life NetworkNorth Bay residents are doing their part to donate their organs after they’ve died.

Ronnie Gavsey, president and CEO of The Trillium Gift of Life Network, says 1,500 people in Ontario are on a waiting list for a life saving transplant.

She says one of these people dies every three days.

Gavsey points out 51 per cent of North Bay residents have registered their consent to donate organs or tissue after they’ve died and that is 6th in the province.

The provincial average is 27 per cent.

Gavsey says that’s actually an improving number as 7-8 years ago it was 13 per cent.

She says it may be that North Bay residents are emotionally connected to others who have been impacted by receiving an organ donation.

April is Be A Donor Month, but Gavsey says North Bay does so well because in North Bay every month is Be A Donor month.

Lively is number 1 at 55 per cent.
