Amadio(Photo by Mark Pare) The North Bay Battalion are halfway to advancing to round 2 of the OHL playoffs.

They edged Kingston 3-2 at the gardens on Sunday thanks to some late period heroics.

Brenden Miller scored with less than a second to go in the first period to give North Bay a 2-1 lead and then Mike Amadio (pictured above) scored his  2nd goal of the game with just over 2 minutes to go in the 2nd period, putting North Bay up 3-1. And with Kingston scoring in the third, Amadio‘s goal proved to be the game winner.

Coach Stan Butler says it was a hard fought game and that’s the way it is at this point in the season.

North Bay now leads the series 2 games to none with Games 3 and 4 in Kingston tomorrow and Thursday.

Each team scored once on the powerplay. The Troops outshot the Frontenacs 28-27.

Things got really interesting a couple of times.  First, it looked like there might be some big time fighting as several players got tangled up in the last minute of the 2nd period and 6 of them ended up in the penalty box from that sequence.

Then in the last 3 minutes of the 3rd, North Bay up 3-2 got a penalty shot.  Nick Paul was stopped, but later he got a penalty for tripping and North Bay had to hold on for much of the remaining time in a 6 on 4 situation.

Game 2 was a rough and tumble, penalty-filled affair, including this dust-up at the end of the second period that led to 6 players (3 from each team) in the box.
